Helmet For My Pillow is an autobiographical look at Private First Class Robert Leckie’s service in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He was assigned to the Pacific theater, where he participated in the Guadalcanal Campaign and Battle of Peleliu. This book, along with With the Old Breed by Eugene Sledge, were the basis of the HBO miniseries, The Pacific. Robert Leckie died in 2001.
