Description

Three records of The Journal of the first session of the Assembly of The League of Nations, bound in one volume.

Folio, [three volumes in one]. Library binding, brown cloth, title in gilt on morocco label affixed to spine. No additional printings listed. Solid text block, with bumped edges and wear to covers. From the University of Cincinnati Robert S. Marx Law Library, with library stamp to cover and title page. The three records are distinguished by contents and printers: “Journal of the First Assembly of the League of Nations, Geneva 1920” printed by Albert Kundig of Geneva; a “Provisional Verbatim Record” of each meeting printed by Albert Renaud of Geneva, and the “Proces-Verbaux of the Committees of the First Assembly of the League of Nations, Geneva 1920” printed by Albert Renaud of Geneva. A unique collection.

Topics recorded in this volume include the election of a President of the League of Nations, management of children impacted by World War I, and admission of new members to the League, such as Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Luxembourg. The League of Nations did not include the United States, due to bipartisan conflict between Henry Cabot Lodge and President Woodrow Wilson.
