Senator James L. Buckley (b. 1923) is the brother of conservative icon William F. Buckley, Jr. Buckley served in the United States Senate from 1971-1977, representing the State of New York. He later joined the Reagan Administration in 1981. He served as Counselor of the Department of State and was later appointed to the United States Court of Appeals – District of Columbia Circuit. He is the author of four books including: If Men Were Angels: A View from the Senate (1975), Gleanings from an Unplanned Life (2006), Freedom at Risk: Reflections on Politics, Liberty, and the State (2010) and Saving Congress from Itself: Emancipating the States & Empowering Their People (2014).
