Octavo, xv, 355pp. Orange cloth, title in gilt on spine. Top edge dyed orange. Stated “First edition” on copyright page. Solid text block, faint foxing to edges of text block, a near fine example. In the publisher’s dust jacket, $6.95 retail price on front flap, light sunning to spine, some shelf wear, a near fine example. Inscribed on the front free endpaper: “To … – with congratulations for your graduation and best wishes from your cousin in law – Paul Simon 6-3-66.”

Paul Simon (1928-2003) was an Illinois Democrat who served in the House of Representatives from 1975 to 1985 and in the Senate from 1985 to 1997. Simon wrote twenty-two books throughout his career, and was known for his traditional horn-rimmed glasses and bow tie. In a tribute to Simon, former President Bill Clinton said he was “beyond question, one of the most remarkable public servants I ever knew.”
