Comments: President Harry Truman visited Key West eleven times during his presidency. With no established vacation home and needing to get away from the pressures of Washington, DC, Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz suggested that Truman take over “Quarters A” at the Key West Naval Station. These quarters become known as the Harry S. Truman Little White House. A total of six presidents have visited the house for official and unofficial business, beginning with President Taft in 1912.
