Madeleine Albright (1937-2022) served as the first female United States Secretary of State from 1997-2001 in the Clinton administration. She previously served as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations (1993-1997), and she was a member of the faculty of Georgetown University for a number of years. She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama in 2012.
