Bumball, mit den besten Grüssen und herzlichen Wünschen zurückgereicht. 8. Nov. 59 Dönitz.” Translated as: “Mr. Stephen W. Bumball, returned with best regards and warm wishes. November 8, ’59; Dönitz.”
Admiral Karl Dönitz (1891-1980) served as Commander-in-Chief of the German Navy (Kriegsmarine) from 1943-1945. After the death of Adolf Hitler, Admiral Dönitz was the short-term German Head of State.
