Octavo, 313pp. Maroon cloth cover, beige cloth spine, title printed in blue on spine, blindstamped on cover. Stated “first edition” on copyright page. Top edge stained green. Publishers first edition dust jacket, with $2.50 on front flap, light wear along edges, near fine. Signed on first free endpaper with the following inscription from the author: “…you just do what seems your job at the moment. – p. 182-3. With best wishes. John Hersey. New Haven, January, 1973.”
Comments: This was author John Hersey first book, which follows General Douglas MacArthur’s defense of Bataan.
