The deluxe limited edition of Napoleon biographies as published by The Grolier Society circa 1900. This “Empire Edition,” complete in 16 volumes, includes The Life of Napoleon by William Hazlitt, Memoirs of Napoleon by Louis Antoine Fauvelet De Bourrienne, and Memoirs of Madame Junot, the Duchesse D’Abrantes.
Octavo, [sixteen volumes]. Uniformly bound in three-quarter maroon morocco with gilt trim and silk boards. Each spine with four raised bands, gilt-embellished compartments, and title in gilt. Top edge gilt, matching silk endpapers. Solid text blocks, all near fine with light wear to hinges and a touch of rubbing to corners. Color frontispiece with captioned tissue guard in each volume, additional illustrations throughout.
One of 425 copies of the “Empire Edition,” this being number 63. A near fine set, rarely seen in its full form with all three contributors.
