Contains first edition points including “party” instead of “property” on page x, line 13. Faint rubbing to spine, dulling of red top stain. Transference from dust jacket on endpaper. In publisher’s first state dust jacket, $2.50 on front flap, portrait of Roosevelt on back panel with no reviews, chip at head of spine with archival tissue repair, bright illustrations on covers. Includes note of provenance from the recipient, Rachel Schrider, a Civil Service employee working in the White House File Room. Inscribed on the front endpaper: “For Rachel Lake Van Gasken / Merry Christmas from Franklin Roosevelt / 1934.”
The recipient of this book, Rachel V. Schrider (née Van Gasken), served in the White House from 1932-1962, working in various positions within the Civil Service Department. She died at the age of 98 in 2004.
