Octavo, vi, 392pp. Bound in three quarter brown morocco, decorative raised bands, title in gilt, marbled boards. Top edge gilt. Marbled endpapers. Includes frontispiece portrait with tissue cover. Light sunning to spine, internally fine, solid text block. This work was number LXXIV of the Standard Novel series.

In 1831, Richard Bentley began publishing the “Standard Novels” series, which took multi-volume works and condensed them to single volumes. The Pilot by James Fenimore Cooper was the first novel in the series, which would eventually include 126 volumes over a 24 year period.
