Seymour’s Sketches, Illustrated in Prose and Verse, published circa 1838, with letterpress by Alfred Crowquill.
Tall octavo, [unpaginated]. Rebound in full spotted calf, gilt trim to covers. Five raised bands, title in gilt on red morocco label affixed to spine. All edges gilt, new endpapers. Original green cloth cover and spine bound in at rear. No date listed, publication history unknown. Solid text block, rubbing to gilt edges. Foxing throughout, primarily to plates. Decorated with full-page plates, complete with captions and tissue guards.
The characters found in Seymour’s Humorous Sketches was originally issued between 1834-1836, by Richard Carlisle of Fleetstreet. Each lithograph was sold separately for three pence. They were transferred to steel by Henry Wallis and published in 1838. A later edition was published in 1866, with a memoir of Alfred Forrester and a list of works by H.G. Bohn.
