A signed letter from future President Franklin D. Roosevelt to Governor Elect Alfred E. Smith of New York. In this letter dated November 23, 1922, Mr. Roosevelt endorses Mrs. Ella O’Gorman Stanton for Deputy Commissioner of Corrections or Health, or as a member of the Parole Board of New York. In 1928, Governor Al Smith would run for President and ask Franklin Roosevelt to run for Governor of New York. Roosevelt was successful in his bid and quickly became a figure in national politics.
