Octavo, xxiii, 269pp. Paperback. Stated “First printing, April 1990” on copyright page. Solid text block, light wear to corners, faint pen marks to rear cover, a near fine example. Inscribed on the front free endpaper “28 June ’90 / To General Powell, CJCS / Sir: I deeply appreciate the role you let me play in helping to get ‘View of the 90s’ on track. Those two — were the best, most exciting of my three years on the Joint Staff. I wish I’d had your class on simplicity and economy of expression before I had written this. / Montgomery C. Meigs Col USA.”

Montgomery C. Meigs (1945-2021) was mentored by Colin Powell when the two worked together in Washington. Colin Powell (1937-2021) served as the United States Secretary of State during the George W. Bush administration, the first African American to hold the post. He also served as National Security Advisor to President Ronald Reagan (1987-1989) and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1989-1993. Powell was discussed as a possible Republican presidential contender in 1996 and 2000, but he declined to run both times. He passed away in 2021, survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Alma Powell.
