Solid text block, crease to spine, spotting to covers, ink remnant along top edge of text block, previous owner’s signature at top of front free endpaper, a very good example. Complete with frontispiece and 7 full-page color photographs. In publisher’s dust jacket, $6.00 retail price on front flap, slight wear to edges, small closed tear at front flap fold, with vibrant imagery and text, a near fine example. Signed by four members of the 1953 British Mount Everest expedition on front free endpaper: E.P. Hillary, George Lowe, Charles Evans and James Morris.
Sir Edmund Hillary (1919-2008) was a New Zealand mountaineer who took part in the 1953 British Mount Everest expedition. He and Tenzing Norgay were the first climbers to reach the summit. Fellow signers in this copy include deputy expedition leader Charles Evans, documentary director George Lowe and travel journalist James Morris (Jan Morris as of 1972), who reported on the expedition to The Times of London.
