Duke University basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski met President George H.W. Bush through their mutual friend, Jim Nantz. Both Krzyzewski and Bush participated in the CEO Roundtable on Cancer, traveled to China for the 2008 Olympics and met two times at the White House to celebrate the national basketball championship of the Duke men’s team. Upon the passing of President Bush, Krzyzewski noted: “I don’t think I’ve known anyone better than President Bush. That combination, that team, of he and Mrs. Bush really provided a lifetime of service to our country. Pretty darn good.” (December, 2018)
