Scribner’s first edition, with “Published September 1920” on copyright page. (Wheelock, 12) Lacking scarce dust jackets. Previous ownership inscription on front free endpaper, with unfriendly historical analysis of Roosevelt in pencil. Signed by the author Joseph Bucklin Bishop and dated 24th Sept. 1920.
Joseph Bucklin Bishop was the authorized biographer and personal friend of President Theodore Roosevelt. He edited the best selling work, Theodore Roosevelt’s Letters to His Children, in 1919. A recent biography of Joseph Bucklin Bishop was released in 2011 titled The Lion and The Journalist.
