Twelvemo, 88, [2]. Blue leatherette, title stamped in gold on cover. Stated “first printing” on title page. Includes frontispiece and numerous black and white illustrations throughout. Light wear to covers, bright gilt on front cover. Signed on the front free endpaper by Brig. General Brougher.
William E. Brougher (1889-1965) was commander of the 11th Division of the Philippine army, who unsuccessfully fought off a Japanese invasion in December, 1941. Brougher survived the Bataan Death March in 1942 and remained one of the highest ranking officers in Japanese captivity during World War II. In retirement he wrote his memoirs, titled South to Bataan, North to Mukden.
