Description

The first edition of In The Shadow Of Lincoln’s Death by Otto Eisenschiml, in the publisher’s scarce dust jacket.

Octavo, xii, 415pp, [1]. Blue cloth, title stamped in gilt. The first printing, with no additional printings noted on copyright page. Light dust along top edge of text block, internally clean. Includes 17 illustrated plates, complete. In the publisher’s dust jacket, retail price clipped on the front flap, light shelf wear, old tape repairs to verso, bright illustrations, a near fine example.

In The Shadow Of Lincoln’s Death follows an earlier work by Eisenschiml, titled Why Was Lincoln Murdered?, which argues that Abraham Lincoln’s assassination was part of a broader conspiracy rather than the act of a lone actor. Eisenschiml presents evidence suggesting that John Wilkes Booth, along with other conspirators, had connections to influential individuals who opposed Lincoln’s policies. Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton is implicated in the plot. (Monaghan, 3561) Both books have been largely discredited by historians.
