Description

The first edition of The Outline of History by H.G. Wells, complete in twenty-four parts.

Quarto, twenty-four volume serial, each measuring 8.5″ x 11″. Original illustrated wraps, title on front panel. Bound at center with two staples in each volume. Solid text blocks, light wear to corners, faint wear along spine, near fine examples. An occasional short closed tear to bottom or top edge. Each volume features a full-page color frontispiece. Illustrations are vibrant, clean internally.

Housed in two custom clamshells, with title in gilt on decorative navy morocco spines.

The Outline of History by H.G. Wells is also known as “The Whole Story of Man” or “Being a Plain History of Life and Mankind,” detailing the history of humans from their origin to World War I. This twenty-four volume serial began on November 22, 1919, with a new piece released every two weeks. Upon the completion of the serial, a single-volume version was published by Cassell in London in 1920.
