Comments: General Nelson A. Miles served in the American Civil War, the Indian Wars and the Spanish-American War. When World War I began in 1917, the 77 year old general offered to serve, but was turned down by President Woodrow Wilson. He passed away in 1925 and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
