Royal Air Force pilot Oliver Philpot is best remembered for his escape from Stalag Luft III, a German prisoner of war camp. He was one of three men to successfully escape the prison. Their escape was known as The Wooden Horse, for its use of a wooden vaulting horse to hide their tunnel. He returned to the United Kingdom at the end of 1943. Their escape has been depicted in several Hollywood movies.
