Inscribed by the author on the title page: “For Barry Amis / regards / John McPhee.” Additionally signed on the title page by the subject, Bill Bradley.
Until the publication of this book, neither the author nor Bill Bradley were well known to a national audience. This work, the first book from John McPhee, launched his career. McPhee (b. 1931) went on teach at Princeton University, win a Pulitzer Prize in Non-Fiction, and is considered a pioneer of “creative nonfiction.”
The subject of this book, Bill Bradley (b. 1943), played basketball in the NBA for a decade, served 18 years in the United States Senate, and ran for President of the United States in 2000.
