Illustrated endpapers with maps of the European theater. Complete with 17 full page photographic illustrations and 55 maps. Light surface wear to leather covers, front hinge rebacked with cloth, solid text block.
This deluxe copy is signed by General Omar Bradley on the limitation page, which notes that 750 copies were signed by the author. This copy is initialed “TSA” by Bradley and inscribed: “I very much appreciate the fine assistance you gave to Chet and me in putting the book in shape. ONB.”
Includes 3 additional letters from Bradley (2-TLS, 1-ALS). Also includes Bradley’s handwritten list of recipients of the deluxe limited edition, such as President Truman, Gen. Eisenhower, George C. Marshall and members of his family.
The recipient of this copy, Theodore S. Amussen, was the editor-in-chief at Henry Holt & Company. It was acquired from the son of Ted Amussen, Timothy Amussen of Alexandria, VA. Tim commented that: “My father and General Bradley became close friends for life during the publishing of this book. So much so, that General Bradley became my godfather.”
General Omar Bradley (1893-1981) was a decorated army commander during World War II. He commanded the II Corps during the Allied invasion of Sicily, the First United States Army during the invasion of Normandy and ultimately the Twelfth Army Group, which comprised all members of the United States Army serving in Western Europe and stands as the largest United States Army formation in history. After WWII, he served as the first Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He became the last general to be promoted to the five-star rank, known as General of the Army.
