Small octavo, [seven volumes]. Full blue morocco, ripple texture to covers. Thin gilt trim to covers. Five bands along spine, title in gilt on red morocco affixed to spines. Gilt turn-ins, with all edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Finely bound by Bayntun-Riviere of Bath, England, with imprint on front endpaper of each volume. Solid text blocks, sunned spines, with light wear to gilt edges. Some sunning to front cover of Volume III. A near fine set in a beautiful uniform binding.
Madame D’Arblay’s diaries were originally published by Henry Colburn of London in 1842. D’Arblay (1752-1840) wrote numerous plays, memoirs, letters, and novels, including Evelina (1778), Cecilia (1782), Camila (1796), and The Wanderer (1814).
