Comments: First Lady Lucretia Garfield, wife of President James A. Garfield, survived her husband for 37 years after his assassination. She lived comfortably on a trust raised for her by Garfield supporters and spent much of her time preserving the legacy of her husband. This work by A.D. Hoterman was one of the first biographies written about the slain president, with chapters on his death already making assumptions about medical malpractice on the part of White House physicians.
