Large octavo, x, [11]-842pp, [6pp ads]. Bound in three-quarter navy morocco, blue silk boards with gilt-ruled trim on covers. Title in gilt on spine, five raised bands with decorative gilt compartments. Top edge gilt, marbled endpapers. Solid text block, intermittent foxing and toning, a near fine example. Restoration work to title page. Includes frontispiece portrait of Lincoln with tissue guard. (Monaghan 22)
Published after the untimely death of President Lincoln in 1865, this is an enlarged edition of the original version, which was first published in 1860.
