Description
First French edition of Mon Combat [Mein Kampf] by Adolf Hitler, published illegally and forced to be withdrawn from the French market.
Octavo, [8], [9]-685pp. Publisher’s original paper wraps, title in French on cover and spine. Many leaves unopened. Front cover detached, light toning to leaves. (Pastore 314) A very good example.
This copy of Mein Kampf was the first to be translated into French, but was not authorized by Hitler or his German publisher, Franz Eher, and was forced to be withdrawn. The French populace was obviously interested in Hitler’s writings, especially in regard to his intentions towards France. An authorized edition was translated into French in 1938, entitled Ma Doctrine, published by a leading French publishing house, Librairie Arthème Fayard.
