The pardon of Richard Nixon was issued on September 8, 1974 by President Gerald R. Ford. Officially known as Presidential Proclamation 4311, it constituted a full and unconditional pardon of President Richard Nixon for any crimes he might have committed against the United States as President, specifically related to his actions in the Watergate matter. The pardon would haunt the presidency of Ford, likely costing him the election in 1976.
