Illustrations by Frederic Remington and other “eminent artists” of the time. Floral endpapers. Frontispiece portrait of Major General Nelson A. Miles with tissue cover. (Howes M595) An exceptionally attractive example, in about fine condition.

General Nelson A. Miles (1839-1925) served in the American Civil War, the Indian Wars and the Spanish-American War. When the United States entered World War I in 1917, the 77-year-old general offered to serve but was turned down by President Woodrow Wilson. He passed away in 1925 and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
