First edition of Picture of Slavery by George Bourne, a notable early abolitionist and Presbyterian minister.

Octodecimo, [ii], [1-4], 5-227pp, [1]. Original brown cloth binding, spine rebacked with original cloth laid down. Title printed on later paper label affixed to spine. Solid text block, faint wear and soiling to binding. Foxing throughout, text remains clean and legible. Complete with eleven woodcuts, including frontispiece, all depicting the horrific realities of slavery. (Sabin 6921) (Blackson 9466) Housed in a custom brown cloth clamshell, title in gilt on brown calf spine.

A scarce example of an abolitionist work that features illustrations of whippings and auctions.
