Collection of items from the 1999 Federal Bar Council Dinner – Learned Hand Award, including the speech of Associate Justice Ginsburg, a program and letter thanking Judge Edelstein for his uplifting note. Justice Ginsburg was the 1999 recipient of the Learned Hand medal for Excellence in Federal Jurisprudence. The copy of the speech is inscribed: “With highest and best regard, Ruth.” The letter thanks the Edelstein’s for their uplifting note and is signed by Ginsburg. Includes a copy of the note from the Edelstein’s to Ginsburg and a copy of the program from the evening. All housed in custom blue cloth folio. Comments: Manhattan District Court Judge David N. Edelstein was nominated to serve on the federal court by President Harry Truman in 1951. He served as the chief judge of the Southern District of New York from 1971 to 1980 but continued to practice until his death in 2000. He is best remembered for the antitrust actions taken against I.B.M. and his efforts to seek out corruption in the Teamsters Union. He was the last serving federal judge appointed by President Truman.
