The Burden Of Our Time (The Origins of Totalitarianism) by Hannah Arendt was first published in 1951 by Harcourt, Brace & Company in the United States, and in the same month by Secker & Warburg of London. The first major work from Hannah Arendt focused on anti-Semitism, imperialism, and totalitarianism, with an emphasis on Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia. A second edition appeared in 1958, including a new preface and an added epilogue titled “Ideology and Terror: A Novel Form of Government.” It’s been cited by Le Monde and The National Review as one of the 100 best works of the 20th Century.
