Octavo, x, 552pp, [12pp ads]. Blue cloth, title in gilt on spine. Olive green endpapers. Covers slightly bowed. Toning to spine, shelf wear to covers. Spine ends bumped. Corners rubbed and worn through in places. Endpapers and text block cracked in a few places, but binding is sound. Few dog-eared pages and finger marks. Pages 537-544 unopened. Complete with all 5 color fold-out maps in near fine condition with offsetting to opposite page. A good example.
This book was first published by Doyle in 1900 when the British thought the war was over, but it lasted another two years. During that time, Doyle made constant revisions to the text and by 1902, sixteen editions were published.
