Journalist Eugene Lyons spent six years in the Soviet Union, one of a few approved foreign correspondents allowed to cover the Stalin regime. Assignment in Utopia describes how the author refused to “see the obvious,” and continued to report what the Soviet sensors wished him to write, not the reality happening in front of him.
