Desmond Doss (1919-2006) was a conscientious objector due to his religious convictions as a Seventh-day Adventist. He served as a combat medic in the Pacific Theater, earning two Bronze Stars and the Medal of Honor. He was the only conscientious objector to earn the Medal of Honor during World War II. His story received national attention in 2016 with the release of Hacksaw Ridge, an Academy Award nominated film depicting the life of Corporal Doss.
