Description
A collection of private letters and thank you notes from Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to Federal Judge David Edelstein. Includes three letters written on Supreme Court stationary, two addressed to Judge Edelstein and the other to Florence, his wife. The first letter, addressed to Judge Edelstein in May of 1995 notes her fond memories of clerking for Judge Edmund Louis Palmieri. The second letter, dated October 2, 1996, thanks him for his kind words. The third letter is addressed to Florence Edelstein, the wife of Judge Edelstein for over 60 years, shortly after the death of her husband. In the note Justice Ginsburg notes that: “He [David] lived greatly in the law and was a model of judicial independence.” An excellent collection of notes from Associate Justice Ginsburg, housed in custom blue cloth folio, descriptive label on front cover. Comments: Manhattan District Court Judge David N. Edelstein was nominated to serve on the federal court by President Harry Truman in 1951. He served as the chief judge of the Southern District of New York from 1971 to 1980 but continued to practice until his death in 2000. He is best remembered for the antitrust actions taken against I.B.M. and his efforts to seek out corruption in the Teamsters Union. He was the last serving federal judge appointed by President Truman.
