Octavo, ix, [1], 421pp. Blue cloth, title in gilt on spine. Light wear at head of the spine, internally clean. Stated “first edition” on the copyright page. In the publisher’s dust jacket, retail price on front flap, light sunning to the spine, chip at head of spine, sunning to the spine, a very good example.

Inscribed by the author to the daughter of National Security Advisor Gordon Gray, Alexandra Beebe. Inscription reads: “For lovely Alexandra Beebe with Christmas affection from the author. Robert Cutler. 1966.”

Robert Cutler (1895–1974) was the first National Security Advisor of the United States, serving under President Dwight D. Eisenhower in two terms (1953–1955 and 1957–1958). He helped shape the structure of the National Security Council and played a central role in coordinating Cold War defense and foreign policy planning.
