First edition of The Howitzer, the yearbook of West Point Military Academy, signed by Dwight D. Eisenhower on his full page entry. Quarto, 357pp. Padded calf covers, title in gilt. All edges gilt. Gray endpapers with previous ownership bookplate affixed to front endpaper. Reinforced at front hinge, wear at along bottom edge, wear from handling. Signed by Dwight D. Eisenhower at his full page entry in blue pen. Excellent provenance. A scarce yearbook by itself and an exceptional piece of Americana with the signature of President Eisenhower.
Comments: The West Point class of 1915 has been called “the class that stars fell on” by historians. The class produced two five-star Generals of the Army, two four-star generals and seven three-star lieutenant generals. General Omar Bradley would serve as senior officer of the United States Army during WWII and the first Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Dwight D. Eisenhower would serve as Supreme Allied Commander and the 34th President of the United States.
